There are many benefits to working with a skilled yoga teacher. Dr. Trish Corley offers private yoga virtually and in person in New Orleans, LA.

Top 5 Reasons You Would Benefit from Private Yoga

Dr. Trish Corley thrives in leading private yoga lessons. She is an expert in identifying the unique needs of individuals and tailoring therapeutic exercise and yoga to address those needs.

If you have ever thought you would benefit from or enjoy a private yoga session, you are correct. There are many advantages to working one on one (or in a small group) with a skilled yoga teacher.

1. Your individualized needs are met.

While group yoga classes are a great way to connect with the community, even the most skilled yoga teachers need to meet the needs of the majority of the group. In a private session, every moment is focused on providing education and tools that work for you. Do the yoga postures seem too easy or too difficult? No problem. I continuously assess what is happening and make sure you are being challenged enough to reach your goals, but I make sure you will not get injured or be left in a stressful state of mind.

2. Your unique alignment is addressed.

Students often report that they are not sure if they are doing the yoga postures correctly. In a private yoga session, I have the opportunity to provide specific instructions based on your alignment. Your body may have certain tendencies that cause you to align yourself in ways that create strain. This can cause yoga postures to seem more difficult and/or painful and may have you at risk for an injury. I have over twenty years of experience evaluating and improving human biomechanics. I ensure students avoid injury and also make them feel comfortable. Good alignment in yoga postures is not about "getting it right." It is about getting the most out of your yoga practice while maintaining a healthy body.

3. All the hands-on assists you desire are available.

If you have ever experienced the benefits of (and just how good they feel) hands on assists, you likely need no further explanation. If given consent, I use my hands to help students align their bodies in more powerful ways and to help them experience a new depth or possibility in a posture that they may not initially obtain on their own. “I didn’t know that pose could feel like that; I didn’t think I could do that pose.”

In lieu of the COVID-19 pandemic, many yoga studios have opted out of providing hands-on assists to minimize the spread. Though I support this choice, I know students are craving hands on assists even more now. In a private session, I practice standard precautions (as in a healthcare setting) and yet there is no concern of cross contamination from student to student. That means you get all the hands on assists….you may just feel like you get a yoga practice and massage at the same time.

4. You can ask questions.

Have you ever been in a group class and had some questions that you didn’t ask because it just wasn’t appropriate to interrupt the class. Maybe you made a mental note to ask the teacher after class, and after a blissed out savasana just completely forgot. If you are new or experienced, it is not just ok, but maybe even encouraged for you to ask questions during the private session – whenever and however often you want to. Ask away. This is how you will learn and develop your yoga practice.

5. Book a time and location that works for you.

I get it. Sometimes the best class or teacher is just not scheduled at a convenient time for your schedule and no one wants to drive across the city in traffic for an hour to get to class. You can book a private yoga session that works with your current schedule. And it can be done in your home, office, park, or any other place. With a little help from technology, it can be done virtually from anywhere in the world now too!

In person sessions with me are available in New Orleans. Virtual sessions are available via Zoom.

A private yoga session is for you if....

  1. You seek privacy or don't feel ready to go to group yoga classes.
  2. You are new to yoga and not sure how to get started.
  3. You are working to heal an injury or want to learn the best way to practice yoga given the unique needs of your body.
  4. You want to take your yoga practice to the next level. Can you say inversions and arm balances?

"I am so impressed by the level of detail Trish provides in her instructions with me. Even when we meet virtually, I learn so much. My private session with her gave me the confidence to go to group yoga classes." -- Ben
